Word for the Year - Freedom

A new year, a new word! Last year, my word was Peace. It was a tough year to practice Peace, but I learned a lot and I think I am living more peacefully, President Trump notwithstanding.

This year's word is Freedom. Not Freedom in a political sense, but Freedom in a spiritual and emotional sense. I'm Free to follow Jesus. I'm Free to be the woman God wants me to be. I just need to exercise that Freedom.

In John 8, Jesus is talking about who his disciples are. He says that “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (vv 31-32) In verse 36, Jesus says, "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."

Freedom comes through obedience to Jesus. I'm not a slave to my sinful desires or to my anxiety about this world (lookin' at you, Mr. President). I'm Free to walk with Jesus in a life of love and service.

I'll post more about this over the next few weeks and months. I have lots of thoughts. I'd like to hear some of yours.
